Hey ladies,

I am in desperate need of advice. It's my first year in college and my lips have been dry and chapped the entire time I've been here (a month already). I used Burts Bees, Rosebud Salve, Carmex, Blistex, and Aquaphor... so far nothing is helping to actually heal them. I'm constantly reapplying this crap and it's fine for a little while, but overnight they dry out and when I wake up I'm back to cracking and bleeding lips. It's killing me!!!! Please let me know if there is ANYTHING I can do to help repair my lips-- I don't care how much it costs or if I have to go to a doctor to get it. I'm going so far as to debating putting neosporin on them!

For me the best product I've found is Mary Kay Satin Lips lip Balm. I know I rep for Mary Kay so it seems like I'm just trying to push my product but the Satin Lips set is the first MK product I ever tried and is the reason I now sell MK.

I love it because it doesn't just sit on your lips but soaks in and actually moisturizes. The set has two parts the balm and a mask to remove dry skin.

But it sounds like your really getting desperate so I would recommend the neosporin or vaseline while you are sleeping to help heal your lips then a balm or salve during the day.

have you tried virgin olive oil or vitamin e oil? I find those work best for me, on both skin and lips..put it on at night and the next morning, you definitely see a difference.

I use Labbri. This stuff is amazing! It lasts for a long time and has improved my cracked lips. My lips sometimes crack and bleed because I use Accutane and this balm has helped ease my pain unlike all the other ones I've tried in the past. In addition, it's not tacky like all those lip glosses and your hair doesn't get stuck all over it when the wind blows. Highly recommended!

Feeling so bad for you! My daughter is a freshman in college and believe me I would about die if she were going to put neosporin on her lips.
Most of your problem is caused by wax build up that is a result of the products you are currently using on your lips. The wax actually creates tiny lesions in your lips which is masked every time you apply it once again.
I am a Consultant for SeneGence International that makes a product called Sports Lip Balm that will cure your lips. It works and comes with a 100% guarantee.

I agree that Mary Kay Satin Lips Balm is awesome. Also, try drinking a little more water. When we don't get enough water, our lips are one of the first places that show it.

The first thing I would do is exfoliate your lips with a soft tooth brush. As for products I have a few options at different price points; Laura Mercier's Lip Silk $19, Perricone Oil Lips balm $21, Sephora Brand Lip Balm $9.

Try Carmex. It comes in regular and cherry scents. I have the worst dry skin ever, and Carmex is the only product that works for me. Hey, check out 'Cool Drug Store Finds' at http://nomorevanity.com/page3.html for other helpful products.
Peace.

Have you tried using Jane Iredale Lip Drink? about £12. Has no petroleum which just dries out lips(never use vaseline on lips!Sorry Amy but I totally disagree with you on this one.) goes on clear is really hydrating and is non sticky- best thing I have tried and scottish winter is hard on lips!

I feel your pain- I had the same problem many moons ago when I was in college. Dorm rooms, apt. buildings, etc. can have very dry air/heat. I suggest getting a cool mist humidifier to put some moisture back in your room.

Next, exfoliate your lips gently as long as you have no open sores or cracking currently. If you do, just apply some extra virgin olive oil or kukui nut oil to moisturize and begin the healing process.

Next apply some plain 'ol Vaseline (I'm not a fan of petroleum-based products but the Vaseline will seal in the moisture by creating an occlusive barrier).

Once your lips heal, exfoliate them regularly (1 to 3x's per week) with a very soft baby tooth brush or by making your own homemade lip exfoliator recipe (so cheap but so effective!)- you can find one here: The Mineral Makeup Coach Blog.

Whatever lip products you use I suggest unscented and unflavored. Sometimes the scents/flavors cause us to 'lick' our lips more which leads to chapping.

I use these techniques with clients that come into my skin care practice and they DO work. Give it time, be faithful with your regimin and your lips will get better. Now go and get that humidifier! =-)

Chapped lips is really annoying esp in winter time and I've been going through this for the past several years. So glad that I found a solution that I tried applying Skin Ceuticals Hydrating B5 Gel Moisture Enhancing Gel on my lips first and then apply Elizabeth Arden Eight hour cream to capture the moisture on lips! It's a good chapped lips remedy and I would recommend people to do that every night before going to bed!

I have consult 4 dermatologists before for skin care problems and all of the recommended me to use Skin Ceuticals products and the B5 moisture Gel is especially made for extremely dehydrated skin and can be applied on skin and lips! Of cos after apply Skin Ceuticals B5 moisture Gel, you needa apply a thicker lip moisturizer to protect and keep the moisture on your lips! So Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream is the best choice as lip blam or first-aid moisturizer for chapped skin! What's more and great is that both products can be applied on skin and lips too!

I have also found an online store which sell both products in discount! My fav online store Beautilady.com offers those brand in discount and free shipping! Hope my little tips can help people to fix the chapped lips problem in winter!

It sounds like you're not doing anything overnight for your lips; I'm pretty faithful about applying a lip balm (even just plain 'ole vaseline if I don't have anything else) on my lips while I sleep. I like the Nivea lip products, as well as some of the Sally Hansen ones--cheap and effective. Also, I make sure I keep a vaporizer on--it's an added step to fill it up if you're tired, but it does help to keep skin/lips a bit less dried out. Good luck!
